The world’s largest retailer caters to the need of millions of its Online and Walk in customers by ensuring optimal availability of needed assortment and timely delivery on Online fulfillment through a suit of well orchestrated event streaming platforms leveraging Kafka and its ecosystem.
One of the application that plays an extremely key role to customer satisfaction is the real time Replenishment system . This system on a given day processes more than 4 billion messages in less than 3 hours leveraging an array of processors to generates an order plan for the entire network of Walmart stores with great accuracy. While doing so it also ensures no data loss through event tracking and necessary replays and retries.
Through this session, we will highlight various aspects of Design, Architecture, Deployment strategy, Kafka settings, Optimization techniques etc that was paramount to achieve this rate of processing and certainly with no accidents.

WalmartDhawal is a Senior Software Engineer working in the Real Time Replenishment System at Walmart. He is currently leading one of the core teams in the Replenishment ecosystem. He has been with Walmart for 4 years now and one of his main problem-solving interest has been on Application resiliency at Scale be it at the infrastructure layer or at the application layer. Dhawal has a Masters degree from Arizona State University.

In his previous roles at Walmart, Suman architected as well as led teams that built the Walmart’s modern, real-time inventory, forecasting and real-time replenishment platforms. Specializing in stream processing, big data architectures, and cloud computing at scale, Suman also has extensive experience designing various distributed platform. He holds nine patents, with several more filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Suman has been a regular speaker at a variety of technology conferences and seminars and is the founder of the Bentonville Java and Cassandra Users Group. In 2022, Suman was honored as one of the five recipients of the "Leader in Data Streaming" award at Connect. He holds a BTech from Biju Patnaik University of Technology, India, and an MBA from Sam M. Walton Business College.
